The Geology Section of the Peoria Academy of Science has established a grant program to further the education of students by making funds available to individual teachers who demonstrate the need for such funds to purchase materials for units dealing with geology.
This grant is available to K-12 teachers in all public and parochial schools in the areas served by the Peoria Academy of Science Geology Section membership. This includes, but is not limited to, Mason, Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties.
A completed application form must be postmarked by February 1 in the year in which the award is made. Late applications will not be accepted. No more than one award will be made to a single school per year.
A grant committee will make recommendations to the Geology Section at the March meeting. The Geology Section will vote on the number of awards to be provided at the March meeting after reviewing financial availability. The successful applicant(s) will be notified in April. The name(s) of the teacher(s) and their school(s), which receive awards, will be released to the media following notification of grant recipient(s). The awardee(s) will be required to provide follow-up documentation, in the form of a letter or presentation to the Geology Section, detailing the effectiveness in actual use of the materials provided in the grant within a twelve-month period.
